Homework Schedule
I have learned throughout my life as a composer chiefly through my mistakes and pursuits
of false assumptions, not by my exposure to fonts of wisdom and knowledge.

Midterm Exam 1
The first midterm exam will be taken in-class on Wednesday, March 4th. Each
midterm exam is worth 100 points and 17% of your final grade. The first
midterm exam will cover the material we have studied since the beginning of the course.
The midterm will consist of questions similar to those in the homework and on quizzes,
as well as a proof or two and some formal definitions of the distinguished words we have isolated for use in this course.
You should expect the exam to be a thorough and, at times challenging, exploration of the ideas we have studied.
I do not approach exams as antagonistic events; the goal of the exam is to assess what you do and do not know.
There can also be something fun and enjoyable about this experience, and
I hope you will leave the exam pleased with how much you are able to accomplish.
Some logistics:
The quizzes and homework from the end of Monday's class can be picked up during office hours on Tuesday,
or at the study session Tuesday evening.
Please plan to arrive on time for the exam - it will distributed promptly at 11:30 and 1:50, and
perhaps even a couple minutes early if everyone is present.
When you arrive for the exam, please place everything besides your exam writing utensils
at the front of the room next to the blackboard.
While you are taking the exam, you will just need two or three writing instruments;
the extras are in case one of your writing utensils malfunctions.
Paper will be provided with the exam, so you will not use any personal paper during the exam.
If you are interested in having a calculator during the exam, you must use the TI-30 calculators
that will be available with the exam.
Finally, the exam will be collected promptly at 12:33 and 2:53 to allow the next class time to get settled in the room.
