Endre Nyerges will
be program chair for the 2007/2008 academic year.
Andrea Abrahams will
be joining the program for the 2007/2008 academic year, and will
be teaching two new courses.
Centre hosted the A.S.K.
2006 Conference!
The Anthropology and
Sociology Program at Centre College hosted the 2006 Annual
Meeting of the Anthropologists and Sociologists of Kentucky on
October 27 and 28, 2006. We invited papers and panel session
proposals from anthropology and sociology faculty, students, and
scholars. There was also a Student Paper Contest. The Guest
Speakers included Professor Mary Anglin from the University
of Kentucky’s Department of Anthropology and Professor David May
from Eastern Kentucky University’s Department of Correctional
and Juvenile Justice Studies. Please see the

The Ring of Fire trip to
Southeast Asia
was led by Gareth Barkin and Phyllis Passariello during

Phyllis Passariello
was awarded the W. George
Matton endowed professorship, and received funding to attend an
NEH summer workshop on regional culture in Oaxaca.
Gareth Barkin
will be directing the Centre in London program for spring, 2008.

was awarded a Stodghill Research
Professor leave of absence for spring 2007.
Phyllis Passariello
was promoted to full professor. She led Centre's program in
Merida, Mexico, in the Fall term, 2004. In the Centre Term, 2005
she took students to Ecuador. A story about her "Introduction to

Endre Nyerges was
named a Centre Scholar for 2004 - 06 in recognition of
excellence in research and to support his ongoing work in the
long-term monitoring of environmental change dynamics in western
Africa.
