More plainly put, Alpha Phi Omega is a co-educational service fraternity founded on the principles of leadership, friendship, and service.

What is Theta Theta?

After the fall semester of 1949, the new brothers inducted 7 new members into the chapter in February of 1950. Following that spring semester there are no records of the chapter for nearly 50 years—the chapter became inactive with a total of 40 brothers. No brother is quite sure what happened, or why the chapter became inactive, but what is certain is that the chapter had not reached its end.

In the spring of 1998, seventeen students and one faculty member decided to revive what the original thirty-three had started by rechartering the Theta Theta chapter. The ceremony was held May 8, 1998 with attendants from the regional staff, brothers from Delta Theta, and section staff. These refounding members are the basis for the family trees we are still part of.

Regular service projects include the Kentucky School for the Deaf, Up 'Til Dawn, Sadie's Animal Rescue, and BHI Assisted Living. As well, Theta Theta has taken fellowships to Red River Gorge, Gatlinburg, and section and national conferences, not counting the numerous movie nights held here at Centre College.

Theta Theta meets in Young 202 every Sunday night at 8:30 during the academic year.

Recruitment Information

Recruitment status: Recruitment for this semester is over. Be ready for Recruitment Week Fall ‘08! Until then, talk to a member of Alpha Phi Omega or visit the calendar for upcoming events!

Theta Theta Chapter hosts recruitments in both fall and spring semesters. This is comprised of one week of activities in which prospective members can meet active members of the brotherhood during service and fellowship events. The end of the week features the pledging ceremony in which those who wish to become members choose to pledge themselves to Alpha Phi Omega. After they have made their pledge, potential new members go through a six week process in which they learn the history of the fraternity and host various events for the chapter. Potential new members are aided in this by their pledge educator and a big brother, both of whom offer great guidance and assistance during this process. Hazing is absolutely prohibited and at no point will you ever be subject to it. Upon completion of this process and a 2/3 positive vote from the brotherhood, the potential new members activate and become full-fledged brothers in Alpha Phi Omega.

F.A.Q.s:

1. I missed the part about hazing. Do you haze?
Absolutely not, in no way, never.

2. Is there a cost associated with Alpha Phi Omega?
Like all fraternities, Alpha Phi Omega has dues. For potential new members, the semester fee is $75. The cost goes down quite considerably once you activate, and payment is highly negotiable for those with extenuating circumstances. Money should never be a concern when joining Alpha Phi Omega. It is also 1/10 the cost of any other greek organization on campus!

3. I can't make it to all the recruitment events. Can I still pledge?
Of course. The only required event is the pledging ceremony at the end of recruitment week. Feel free to come to any or all events, at your leisure. We do, however, suggest that you come out and meet us. We're a friendly group, and we'd love to meet you!

4. If you guys are a fraternity, why don't you have a house?
Alpha Phi Omega is a service fraternity, not a social fraternity. This means that, apart from sharing a common sense of friendship, our members also share a common love of service. As well, our national office forbids any Alpha Phi Omega chapter from having a fraternity house.

5. Can I be a social greek and join Alpha Phi Omega?
Absolutely! We have quite a few members who belong to both a social greek organization and Alpha Phi Omega.

6. I have more questions. Who can I talk to?
Please contact Brittany Devine, our current Vice President of Membership, or any other member of our fraternity. We're always glad to help. As well, you might wish to check out our recruitment video.
