Steve Asmus, associate professor of biology (B.S. Cleveland State University, Ph.D. University of Michigan). Dr. Asmus, who joined the BMB program in the fall of 1996, is a developmental cell biologist who specializes in studying the regulation of neurotransmitters in developing neurons. He employs a variety of microscopy and cell biology techniques which are readily accessible to students interested in working on research projects in developmental neurobiology.

Stephanie Dew, associate professor of biology (B.A., Centre, Ph.D., Vanderbilt University). Dr. Dew, one of the many Centre BMB majors who has gone on to complete a Ph.D. in this field, returned to Centre in the fall of 1994. Her research, which continues with students at Centre, is concerned with understanding the protein molecules which carry and process retinoid compounds (members of the vitamin A family).

Peggy Richey, associate professor of biology (B.A., M.S., Ph.D. University of Kentucky). Dr. Richey is a molecular geneticist with strong interests in understanding the interactions between pathogenic fungi and their plant hosts. Recently she has worked with students who on the one hand were studying the traits needed by the fungus to infect the host, and on the other studying the biochemical defenses mounted by the plant.
