Fifth Annual Etiquette Dinner

Do your students know where to sit at the table in relation to their host, how to politely excuse themselves from the table, how to properly eat different types of food, or what all those utensils are for?!?!?  The annual Etiquette Dinner for students covers all of this and much more!  This year's event is on Wednesday, November 2 at 5:30 pm in the Evans-Lively Room (formerly the Carnegie Club).  Students enjoy a formal, five-course dinner while learning all about business and dining etiquette.  Plus, they will receive a certificate of completion and a 50-page etiquette booklet for future reference (at a cost of only $5).  Seats fill up quickly, so encourage your students to call today!

Law School Fair

The annual Law School Fair will take place on Tuesday, October 4th at 4:30pm in the Warehouse. Among the many law schools that will be attending: UK, University of Michigan, Vanderbilt, Indiana University-Bloomington, Ohio Northern, and the University of Louisville. Please encourage students interested in a career in law to attend!

Hi-Tech Resume Workshop

On October 6th (11:20am), Career Services and ITS will co-sponsor a resume workshop. It will be held in Crounse 0040.  In this workshop students will learn how a resume is used, what goes on a resume, and how to properly format their resumes. They will also develop a draft of their resume on a lab computer before they leave.  As you can imagine, space is limited, so encourage your students to sign up soon!   To sign up for this special workshop, go to http://web.centre.edu/set/.

Academic vs. Non-Credit Internships

Centre College offers two types of internships: academic credit and non-credit internships.

An academic-credit internship requires the supervision of a faculty member and an on-site supervisor. These internships require the combination of a substantive academic component along with a significant career-related component. A student participating in an academic credit internship will receive up to 3 credits for their experience, which will be listed on their transcripts. (A student can receive up to a total of 6 internship credits during their junior and senior years.) Although the credits count toward graduation, they do not count toward specific major requirements. These internships are closely monitored by the Internship Coordinator. Only juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in credit-bearing internships.

Non-credit internships do not require college credit and are often, but not always, completed during the summer. All arrangements for the experience are made directly between the student and employer (although you may find internship opportunities listed on eRecruiting or in Career Services), and Career Services does not monitor the experience. The experience may be listed on a resume, but will not be listed on the student's transcripts. As opposed to an academic credit internship, a student may participate in this type of internship any time during their college career.

For more information about Centre College internships, go to our Internships webpage.

Don't Forget - Donald Asher to Speak on Campus

On October 13th, 2005, Career Services is honored to host Donald Asher, a nationally known speaker and author, on the topics of the job search and the graduate school application process. He is the author of How to Get Any Job with Any Major and Graduate Admissions Essays: Write Your Way into the Graduate School of Your Choice, among other books.

Mr. Asher will speak during common hour (11:30am) on the job search (in Nichols Dining Room in Cowan) and again as a convo in the evening at 6:00pm on applying to graduate schools (in Young 101).
