Externship Program The Centre College Externship Program is a shadowing opportunity designed to help students make better informed career decisions and to help them begin to establish a professional network. The program takes place between CentreTerm and Spring term and typically lasts from one to three days. Comments from both students and alumni regarding this program have been overwhelmingly positive. Students should already have received an Externship Booklet in campus mail. This booklet contains the basic information on the available externships for 2008. Included are instructions on how to apply. Applications need to include a completed form (found at the back of the booklet), a resume, an essay that discusses how this particular externship fits in with the student's career goals and an essay explaining what the student has done to explore possible careers. Applications are due on November 6th. Once received applications are reviewed and as many students as possible are matched with their first choice. Ties are broken based on the quality of the application, the class year of the students, and whether or not the student has been an active Centre Futures participant. Students will be notified of a match on approximately November 9. There will be a REQUIRED orientation meeting on Tuesday, November 13 at 11:30 in Career Services. Limited financial aid is available to help students travel to an externship site. Students must apply for this aid, and applications will be available at the orientation meeting. Externships are a great way to “test drive” a career, start developing a network, and make possible contacts for jobs and internships. If you have any questions, please contact Deb Jones at 859-238-5286.

Centre Internship Plus Deadline Centre College provides matching grants for selected internships during the CentreTerm and summer through a program called Centre Internship Plus (CIP). These internships can either be academic-credit or non-credit internships, and selected students receive up to $1000 minus taxes for CentreTerm and up to $1500 minus taxes for the summer. This is an extremely competitive process in which the student submits a proposal, the CIP Committee reviews the proposals, and the grants are awarded to high-quality internships. At the completion of the internship, students are required to give a 15-minute presentation to other CIP recipients, the CIP Committee members, and interested faculty and students. Last year, 23 students received CIP funding to assist with their internship expenses! Recent recipients have interned with Citibank, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Health, Berkshire Theatre Festival, and Sony Pictures/Yari Film Group, among others. If you know of a student participating in an extraordinary internship during the CentreTerm, encourage them to apply! The deadline for CentreTerm proposals is November 22nd . For complete information, visit our Academic Internships webpage.
CentreTerm and Spring Internship Reminder Don't forget--the deadlines to turn in internship contracts for both CentreTerm and Spring term are fast approaching! Completed contracts are due in Career Services by November 30th. If you or a student has any questions about internships, please contact Mindy Wilson at 8792.
