Currently, I
am the Director of Career
Services at Centre College.
I've been in this position since January 1999 and I love it! It's
great being at this small, liberal arts, instutition that has given
me the opportunity, not only for personal and professional growth,
but also the chance to work a Vice-Presidential Debate (2000) and
to be part of a Guinness Book of World Records setting event (continuous
reading, 2002). Centre is located in the community of Danville,
Kentucky, right in the middle of the state and right on the
edge of the Bluegrass.
Prior to Centre
College, I was the Associate Director of Career Services at Lafayette
College in Easton, Pennsylvania. I was at Lafayette for nine years,
first as the Assistant Director and was promoted to Associate.
I began my career
in Career Services at Appalachian State University in Boone, North
Carolina where I worked in the central student affairs office handling
budgets. In addition, I taught a class on career planning and did
part-time work in their "Peer Career" center and the Career
Services office. I was in Boone for ten years, first in graduate
school and then as a university staff member. Boone
is a wonderful place and a great place for a vacation!
I wasn't always
in Career Services. I finished my MBA (with an emphasis in human
resources) during a fairly serious recession. At that time, I took
a position in restaurant mangement. This was a really stupid job
for me as I'm not really fond of cooking.
When I completed
undergraduate school, I took a position in retail management. I
was in that field for 14 months before returning to graduate school.
Restaurant and
retail management may not have been the fields for me, however,
I did learn a lot about customer service
