Family: My community begins and ends with my family! Although we live in four different states, family is still very important to me.

Work: Centre College is also very much a community. Being at a small, liberal arts school gives one the opportunity to interact with a greater percentage of the population, including students, faculty, and staff. It is this community that keeps me working in the small college environment.

Volunteer: In addition to Centre and my farm, I am privileged to be a member of the Board of the regional Girl Scout council, the Wilderness Road Council. Although I wasn't a girl scout, I have been impressed by the dedication of the staff and by the variety and creativity of the programming provided. This is an organization well worth supporting. I am also an occasional transportation volunteer for Siamese Rescue. More on that under the Feline section.

Previous Community Involvement

Before moving to Danville, KY, I was living in Easton, PA. While in Easton, I enjoyed my eight years of volunteering at the Cort Center for Handicapped Horsebackriding. The Cort Center is located at Pleasant Hollow Farm in Coopersburg, PA. This program is accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).

"I saw a child who couldn't walk, sit on a horse and laugh and talk...I saw a child who could only crawl, mount a horse and sit up tall...I saw a child born into strife, take up and hold the reins of life...And that same child was heard to say, thank you God for showing me the way." John Anthony Davis

In addition to the Cort Center, I also periodically voluntered at Godfrey Daniels. Godfrey's is a non-profit, folk music listening club. Volunteering here gave me the chance to hear many musicians I had not had the chance to see or, in some cases, hear previously. Some of the performers I enjoyed included: Anne Hills, Mike Cross, Dee Carstensen, and Priscilla Herdman.
