If you have an interest in teaching and certification in one of these areas, you need knowledge and experience. Enroll in EDU 226 (Education and Technology) and either EDU 227 (Practicum and Introduction to Education) or EDU 228 (Educational Psychology). In these courses not only will you learn about teaching but you will also experience the local public schools. Both courses include Centre's Conceptual Framework, its Framework for Teaching and its Continuous Assessment Process. These will give you a more complete view of the entire certification process. If you decide you want to pursue certification, you should attain a copy of the requirements for your particular area. Formal application to the Education Program is usually made in the spring term of the sophomore year. Announcements regarding application to the Teacher Education Program are made in campus publications during the spring term. An informational meeting is held to review the requirements, to explain the admissions process, and to distribute forms.

Feedback provided by the Dean of Students and the Associate Dean of the College. The purpose of this feedback is to determine whether, in the opinion of these officers of the College, the candidate has any physical, emotional, or other problems that would require the special attention of the Teacher Education Committee or might interfere with the student's successful completion of the Program, and whether teaching represents a wise vocational choice for the student in question.

5. Successfully interview with the Teacher Education Committee for the following purposes:
To allow each member of the Committee to meet and talk with each of the candidates for admission.
To provide an opportunity to assess the candidate's bearing, poise, and level of confidence and articulation.
To determine whether or not the candidate has speaking proficiency in accordance with the criteria given to the candidate prior to the interview.
To gauge the student's insights on the field experiences in the public schools. Students are not expected to know the "correct" answers to all questions asked.
To pose questions to the candidates, which will help assess their dispositions, their commitment to teaching, and their willingness to endure the rigors of the profession. Questions are often used to confront candidates with some of the less pleasant realities of the teaching profession and to assess their reactions.
To allow the candidate to take advantage of the expertise of the committee members by asking their own questions about teaching or about Centre's Teacher Education Program.
To reach a professional judgment based on all the available information as to the student's dispositions and intellectual potential as a teacher and whether or not the candidate should be admitted to the Teacher Education Program.
