A Maple® Project |
During Spring 2001, the Associated Colleges of the South awarded Teaching with Technology Fellowships funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Professor William W. Johnston and Professor Alex M. McAllister of the Mathematics Department of Centre College were awarded a fellowship to create Maple® worksheets for a variety of topics. Below you will find brief outlines and links to the worksheets we have created. In addition, below these links, we have included some comments concerning pedagogy, assessment, and technical information. Any comments or suggestions are welcome; click on the links to download the Maple files...© 2001
Pedagogy and AssessmentThe worksheets were written to be used as in-class modules to facilitate the students understanding of these various topics. Each of the above bulleted topics is appropriate for a single day of class and the grouping of these modules is indicative of common themes. At the same time, the worksheets can be used independently as an interactive guide for studying and/or reviewing each topic. The worksheets contain a blend of descriptive, explanatory text, relevant examples, and appropriate exercises (for both the Maple commands and the ideas being examined). Many of these worksheets (and others) are currently being utilized in Centre College's MAT 160 : Differential Calculus with Review. In preparation for use in this course, we have modified some of the worksheets and based on the students reaction and interaction with the worksheets, we continue to update these worksheets as appropriate. Links to the worksheets being utilized in this course can be found at: http://web.centre.edu/alexmcal/m160f01/hw.html
Technical InformationThese worksheets were written for Maple version 6 during the Spring of 2001. In the Summer of 2001, Maple version 7 was released and we have verified that the worksheets also work for this more recent version of the software.
