If you love to sing, then you will love Centre’s numerous choral ensembles, all conducted by veteran choir director Dr. Barbara Hall. Centre Singers is the premiere group, regularly touring both nationally and internationally. The Centre College Choir is a large ensemble of students, faculty, and staff, often performing major works with other area choirs and orchestra. Centre Women’s Voices and Men’s Voices round out the offerings. The student-run a cappella group Common Time is also a popular choice!
Centre Orchestra
Centre can boast an orchestra that is extremely impressive for a liberal arts college of its size. The orchestra performs a variety of major works from the orchestral literature, often featuring concerti that showcase individual performers.
Centre Jazz Band
Performing a variety of tunes from the early big band era to contemporary funk and jazz, the Centre Jazz Band has a reputation for being one of the most exciting musical groups on campus.
Kentucky Music Ensemble
Performing traditional and contemporary folk music from Kentucky and beyond, this band is one of the signature sounds of Centre College’s music program. With fiddles, guitars, dobros, banjos, and more, the KY Music Ensemble gigs at a wide variety of area venues.
Chamber Ensembles
String quartets, wind quintets, brass quintets, piano trios – you can perform in all of these as well in other mixed instrumental and vocal groups.
Other Ensembles
Other ensembles include Centre Brass, Centre Flutes, and Centre Percussion. The community Advocate Brass Band, recreating the typical turn-of-the-century town band, is also open to students.
