Iota Sigma Pi MAL Reentry Award
Criteria-Annual Award
This award shall recognize potential excellence in
chemistry and related fields achieved by a woman at the
graduate or undergraduate level.
At the time of nomination, the candidate must:
- have returned to academic studies after an absence
of three or more years; i.e., three or more years of
elapsed time means three and 30 are treated equally.
- be a degree candidate at any level in chemistry
or a related field at an accredited four-year college
or university.
- have completed at least one academic year of
college chemistry upon returning.
- exhibit exceptional qualities of interest,
excellence, and professional potential in chemistry.
Conditions
Nominations for the scholarship may be made by a member
of Iota Sigma Pi or by a member of the faculty of the
nominee's institution. Only one nomination may be
submitted from any one department within a college or
university.
The nomination dossier must contain:
- the candidate's name, phone number, permanent and
school addresses.
- official transcripts from all colleges and
universities attended by the nominee
- a short essay by the nominee describing her goals,
pertinent experiences which influenced her choice of
major, any interests or talents that will assist her
in succeeding in her professional career, and how the
scholarship will benefit her in meeting her goals.
- two letters of recommendation; one from the
nominator, and a second by a chemical professional
acquainted with the candidate's potential and
abilities.
Application Procedure
One original and five copies of the dossier should be
sent to: the Members-at-Large Coordinator at the address
shown below.
Complete applications must be received by March 20 and
the awardee will be announced by May 1
The scholarship consists of a $1,500 unrestricted cash
award, a certificate of recognition, and a year's
complimentary membership in IOTA SIGMA PI.
The award will be presented at any suited academic,
scientific, or professional meeting including recognition
ceremonies at the awardee's institution or the IOTA SIGMA
PI National Convention. The scholarship committee chair
shall make arrangements after consultation with the
awardee.
