There are two sets of unknowns in the Spectral Zoo. Set A contains IR and 1H NMR spectra. Set B contains IR, 1H NMR, and 13 NMR spectra. Both sets start with unknown #1, providing the formula and the IR spectrum as well as links to the NMR(s) and the structure/name of the unknown. There is also a drop down menu which will allow you to choose another unknown.

The IR spectra were obtained from vapor phase samples. The O-H peaks from such functional groups as alcohols and carboxylic acids have strikingly different appearances in these gas phase samples.

You may find it useful to enlarge portions of the spectra in order to interpret them carefully. "Zooming" is accomplished by making a box around the region of interest. You can "undo" the zoom by clicking on the spectrum. Specific peak positions can be determined by placing the cursor on the peak of interest, as the x,y coordinates of the current mouse position are shown above the spectrum.

Unlike with the previous Chemscape Chime version of the Spectral Zoo, it's now possible to print your spectra! Thanks, Ian!

Huge thanks to Bob Hanson of St. Olaf College for explaining the compression to Ian, so he could write the decompression algorithms! Thanks, Bob!!!
