The term “recruitment” includes events in the fall and winter terms, as well as formal recruitment in the spring.  Below is an outline of the recruitment process: the events you can expect to see in the fall, followed by a detailed description of formal recruitment.

Greek Events in the Fall

“Go Greek” Cookout: The first recruitment event that takes place in the fall, the “Go Greek” Cookout is a fraternity/sorority mixer with games, food, and fun.  The entire campus is invited and attire is casual.

Sorority and Fraternity Mixers: Throughout the fall semester, individual sororities will often host mixers with a fraternity.  Attend as many as possible!  Each mixer allows you to meet chapter women in a more casual setting.  Attire varies by event.

Fall Preview: An event sponsored by the Panhellenic Council, Fall Preview is meant to give potential new members the opportunity to meet sorority women from each chapter.  Tours are given and guests are treated to slideshows at each house.  Attire is casual; most women wear nice jeans and a nice top.

Sorority Holiday Parties: Near the end of the fall semester, the sororities host holiday parties.  Turnout is high at these events, where the chapter women cook all the food themselves.  Each party will have a slightly different theme, but all require formal attire.

Formal Recruitment

What is Formal Recruitment?
Formal Recruitment takes place during the first four days of the spring term (February 5 – 8, 2009).  After three rounds of recruitment comes Bid Day, when the newest members of the Greek community run to the houses of their chapters.  On Bid Day, Rho Gammas reveal their affiliation and run with the new members.

Philanthropy Night (Philanthropy Round) – February 4, 2010
Each women going through recruitment will visit each of the four houses on Philanthropy Night, with few exceptions (see the FAQ at the bottom of this page).  At each house, they will work on a craft that benefits that chapter’s national philanthropy.  Attire is casual.  At the end of Philanthropy Night, the women will go back to their halls with their Rho Gammas and make a list of their preferences.

Skit Night (Invitational Round) – February 5, 2010
A woman may visit a maximum of three houses on Skit Night.  When she arrives at the Warehouse, she will be given a list of the houses she will visit.  On Skit Night, the women will enjoy a slide show and skit prepared by the chapter women.  The slide shows and skits are entertaining and funny, so come prepared to laugh!  Attire is business casual – no jeans.  Khakis, a nice skirt, a nice shirt or blouse.  At the end of Skit Night, the women will go back to their halls with their Rho Gammas and make a list of their preferences.

Pref Night (Preference Round) – February 6, 2010
A woman may visit a maximum of two houses on Pref Night and will be given a list of the houses she will visit when she arrives at the Warehouse.  Pref Night is the most serious night of recruitment, during which the chapter women will speak with their guests over dessert.  Often, the women will try to answer questions the potential new members may have, or explain why they chose to join a sorority and what they have gained from it.  Attire is formal (think dresses).  At the end of the night, the women will return to the third floor of the Warehouse to sign their Bid Cards (see the FAQ for more information) if they so choose.

Bid Day – February 7, 2010
Women will learn early in the morning whether or not they have been extended a bid.  The women who have received a bid will go to the Warehouse before noon, where they will be allowed to open their bid card.  The Rho Gammas will then run with the new members to the sorority houses to participate in Bid Day activities.
