     GENERAL INFORMATION

What day is both the saddest and the happiest day around here?
Commencement. It's hard to say goodbye to dear friends every single
year, all while bursting with pride and joy over their accomplishments -
and their incredibly bright futures! We hope to make Commencement
a weekend to remember, and a meaningful experience for both the
     graduates and their families.

Commencement 2009 is scheduled for Sunday, May 24th at 3:00 p.m.
in Newlin Hall of the Norton Center for the Arts. The ceremony will be
simulcast in the Alumni Gymnasium in Sutcliffe Hall. To assist our
seniors and senior parents in making plans for this important event,
information about Commencement weekend activities is listed here.

QUESTIONS: Feel free to contact Mona Wyatt, (859) 238-5345 or
238-5208, with any questions you may have, or email her at:
     mona.wyatt@centre.edu.

     TICKETS
Seniors will receive a letter in February asking them to indicate by March 20th the number of tickets they are      requesting for family and friends for the Commencement ceremony. On average, seniors in the past have      received 4 tickets in Newlin Hall, with an additional 2-3 tickets to the simulcast.

Because seating is limited, we suggest you communicate with your senior concerning your ticket needs      and encourage them to return the form to us quickly. Forms will be processed in the order in which they are      received and those received after the deadline will be processed last. Seniors can request more tickets than      the anticipated number available, and we will give out any extras through a lottery drawing. Commencement      tickets will be mailed directly to the seniors on campus in early May (unless they are studying abroad - in that      case, the tickets will be mailed to the parents).

Special needs seating is available for people confined to wheelchairs and for anyone physically unable to      climb stairs. Seniors also will be asked to indicate the number of guests requiring special needs seating      on the reservation form. Those same seats may be reserved for Baccalaureate, and handicapped parking      is also available.

     SPEAKER

This year's Commencement speakers will be Jerry and Linda Bruckheimer. Both will receive an honorary      degree of humane letters from Centre during the ceremony. Jerry Bruckheimer is recognized internationally      for his preeminence in film and television production. He produced some of the highest grossing pictures of      the 1980s, including "Flashdance," "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Top Gun." In 1996, Bruckheimer formed his own      production company and has produced, among others, "Black Hawk Down," "Pearl Harbor," "Remember the      Titans" and "Pirates of the Caribbean." Bruckheimer also produces the television shows "CSI," "Without a      Trace" and "The Amazing Race."

Linda Bruckheimer is a writer, producer and preservation activist. A trustee of the National Trust for Historical      Preservation, she is an advocate against overdevelopment in Kentucky and has worked to develop crops -      like lavender, Echinacea and St. John's Wort - that give new life to agricultural lands.

Bruckheimer also works to restore and preserve historic buildings in small rural U.S. towns, most notably      Bloomfield, KY, where the couple owns a farm. Bruckheimer bought and restored several buildings in the      town, revitalizing the downtown and its economy with businesses that appealed to both local residents and      visitors.

     BACCALAUREATE
While seating is limited for the Commencement ceremony, seating for the Baccalaureate service in Newlin      Hall on Sunday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m., is open. Family and friends are welcome to attend Baccalaureate      and other weekend activities.

     RESERVATIONS
A schedule of Commencement Weekend events is listed at the end of this information. Reservations are      required for the Saturday Reception (no charge), Saturday Family Picnic, Senior Family Party (no charge),      and the Sunday Luncheon.

If you need a reservation form or wish to make reservations, please call Amy Wilson at (859) 238-5208 after      March 1st. Meal tickets will be mailed directly to the parents. (And don't worry, if you forget to bring the      tickets, we'll have your name on a list.) Please note that there is no charge for the senior to any of these      events, but please include them on your form so that we have an accurate count.

     2009 COMMENCEMENT VIDEO
As we have for a number of years, the College has contracted a professional video production company,      Jumpcut Productions, to videotape the Baccalaureate Service and the Commencement ceremony. If you      need an order form to purchase a DVD, please call (859) 238-5208. The form and payment go directly to the      company. Please note: The DVDs will be mailed to you in late July.

     2009 COMMENCEMENT PHOTOS
Logue Photography of Danville will photograph graduates as they receive their diplomas. Graduates will      receive information, mailed to them at home directly from Logue Photography, after Commencement about      purchasing these photos. Group photo sessions (for groups of family or friends) will be available at Chowan      from noon to 2 p.m. after Baccalaureate.

     ANNOUNCEMENTS
Formal printed announcements for Centre Commencement are available through Herff-Jones. In February,      the Centre Bookstore sends each senior a packet of information with an order form. The forms are mailed      directly to Herff-Jones, and they ship the announcements directly back to the student, or often to the parent.      Students will have an opportunity to meet with representatives from Herff-Jones on March 2nd and 3rd,      from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Warehouse. If you have questions, feel free to contact Linda Minteer at
     (859) 238-1516 at The Centre Bookstore. You may also order online at
     http://www.herff-jones.com/college
.

     CAPS AND GOWNS
Orders for caps and gowns will also be taken on March 2nd and 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the      Warehouse when the representatives from Herff-Jones will be on campus. If anyone is unable to meet with      the representatives, they should go to The Centre Bookstore immediately and see Linda Minteer and she will      take the order and measurements. The cap and gown are "keepsakes," so seniors will not need to turn them      in after the ceremony.

     SENIOR CLASS RINGS
Centre class rings are also available through Herff-Jones and can be ordered from the representatives on      March 2nd and 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Warehouse . If you have questions, please feel free      to contact Linda Minteer at (859) 238-1516 at The Centre Bookstore.

     CENTRE GIFTS
In addition to all the offerings at The Centre Bookstore, other appropriate Centre gifts for your graduate are      available through the Alumni Association. These items include a silver Centre pendant; sterling silver cufflinks      with the Centre logo; Centre Shaker boxes in two sizes, hand painted by a former Centre parent; an Old      Centre print by James Werline; a crystal bowl with the Centre logo etched on it; a blown glass ornament by      Centre artist Brooke White; a set of four mugs with Centre buildings; as well as Centre tote bags, golf sets      (which include Centre golf balls, tees, and a towel), coolers, and a pewter sun catcher.

You may contact the Alumni House toll-free at (877) 678-9822 or locally at (859) 238-5500, or view the      items and order online at the Centre Store. The web address is: http://www.centre.edu/store.

     COMMENCEMENT REHEARSAL
There will be a Commencement rehearsal during Commencement week on Monday, May 18th at 4:45 p.m.      in Newlin Hall. It is very important that your senior be there.

     COMMENCEMENT LINEUP
The lineup for Commencement is at 2:00 p.m. in front of Old Centre.
You may want to take photos there, which is fine, but we encourage
you to do that quickly and early. After the faculty marshals begin placing
the seniors in line, we need them to be ready to stay there.

     LODGING
We encourage you to make your room reservations at local hotels immediately if you have not already      done so. If you need assistance with lodging, please contact the office of parent programs at
     (859) 238-5208 or 5345 or click here to view area accommodations.

We look forward to having you on campus in May to celebrate the very special achievements of your      Centre student on this important occasion. If you have any questions about Commencement activities, do      not hesitate to call me at (859) 238-5345 or my assistant, Amy Wilson, at (859) 238-5208, and we will be      happy to help.
