Welcome!

I have always doodled as a child but somehow stopped when I became a teenager. I think the war in Laos affected me. We had to move and things were hectic. Luckily one of the places we moved to in 1975 was to Paris, France. Even though I did not resume drawing then, I certainly absorbed lots of ideas and techniques. I thought I was for sure heading towards Impressionism. Hmmm, well I ended up an Abstract Expressionist. I even tried Realism. Well that didn't
thrill me.

Back in 1986 when I moved to Arizona two years after graduating from college I fell in love with Southwestern Art. I just was so intrigued by the color hues, landscapes and the deep blue sky. Not to mention real Salsa and the wonderful people of the Southwest. Then I moved to Kentucky in 1991, didn't do any serious Art except for freelance Graphic Design work and sometimes a cartoon illustration or two. Then I met a guy Wayne Daugherty at work whom I respect as a very talented and well known Artist. He actually inspired me back into art and gave me some really nice paper. I went home the very next day from work and started to paint. It was a rough start but worth it!

Now, within two years I have truly been living and breathing Art. It has been surreal and I thank God everyday for blessing me with the skills and talents that I have. Aside from selling my art I have generously donated pieces for fundraisers for causes such as cancer, children, elderly, and humane society, etc...

Here's a glimpse into how I do art: I have been using black Indian Ink then color in with acrylics and sometimes pastels or color pencil. It all depends on my mood, weather and music I am listening too. Every now and then I paint two or three at the same time. I like to stand and use my whole arm and motion with the beat of the music I am listening too. Then sit when tired and working on smaller pieces. If I get overwhelmed then I move on to something else or play my guitar. I usually don't pre sketch. I love the piece to build and develop on its own I mix my paint directly on paper or canvas. Most of the time I use dry brush technique straight out of the tube. My preference is paper. I just love the way it allows my paint to breath and ink and paint just flows better. Occasionally I go for canvas if I run out of paper. My subject matter is always of people or people with music instruments. Particularly the guitar or violin. Once in awhile I just go for shapes, patterns and bold colors. I like monochromatic paintings but don't think I ever did one. Someday! Anyway, within the past two years I have sold over fifty paintings and still have a list of people I owe commission work to. I am also booking at least four shows for the year. Please stay tuned to my site for upcoming shows and new paintings. I will try to feature newest paintings as often as I can.
