The
long-awaited SAC
minutes!!
So our
numbers were a little down this go around… we’re attributing it to the fact that
there was also a convo at the same time.. Thanks to the hardcore SAC’ers for
foregoing the convo credit to be at the meeting! =)
We’re
now in the late stages of Advisor Quest
2004. We’ve interviewed
all the candidates (who were all excellent), and Dean Hays extended an offer to the top
candidate yesterday. It’s customary
(for some reason) to get an answer after about a week, so hopefully we’ll know by next week who our new
advisor is. After we find out,
we’ll put that person’s resume in the SAC office for you to peruse, but also
feel free to ask any exec member about the candidate. Just as a side note, SAC exec and SGA
exec (well.. Ben Golden, his impeccable hair, and Mary Jane Saunier for the most
part) agreed on our top 2 candidates, so we’re very
optimistic.
In the
world of budget-eering, things are looking good. We spent $2332.23 on Family Weekend, which is close to $700 under budget!!!! Way to use less
money than we anticipated!! Let’s keep this trend going (so’s that we can
splurge later on Carnival *coughs*foamdome*coughs*). More money
in treasury = more fun!
Seriously though, what we saved is a little more than what we normally
spend on a Midnight Movie, just to put things in
perspective.
Here’s
how the budget looks for our other October events.
Homecoming -
$10,000 budget
Midnight
Movies -
$600 budget
Fear
Factor -
$300 budget
Rocky
Horror
- $200 budget
Things are working out nicely in the budget department which makes Thom proud, and honestly, that’s all that really matters =P
Mary
Catherine spoke
to us about life in PR land. She
wanted to speak to all the committee chairs about the PR for their events, just
to make sure they had their PR decided.
She also edited the logo and
showed it to us, and might I add, it looks superb. Finally, she wanted some volunteers to help her with the
t-shirt (remember, hot dogs?) Spence volunteered, but if there’s
anyone else who’d like to help her out, please get in contact with
her.
Marie
gave us the lowdown on the Midnight
Movies. The signs are
up, and the RA’s got flyers. Today,
the chalking was visible on campus.
Great job there, folks! Just as a side note though, it may get confusing
as to which theater we’re using.
Make sure everyone knows we’re going to
be at the brand spankin’ new theater! Since this is going to be our
first time using the new theater, we want to
make a good impression so that they will let us come back. So when you’re telling your friends to
go to the new theater, make sure you also let them know that if they get rowdy, chances are we won’t get an invitation
to go back. That said,
Sara, Taylor S., Christina K., Spencer, Thom, and Justin volunteered to be the
muscle working the movies, making sure the rowdy folks don’t get in. They need to be there at 11:30, and
Taylor and Christina get the privilege of being the clickers
=)
Our
other committees reported on what they discussed during our breakout session of
the night.
Nikki told us a few more details about how Fear Factor is going to work. They decided to have a random drawing the day before the event to let the people know that they’ve been chosen to be on the show. Then she discussed some of the “finer” parts of the game including, but not limited to crickets, gummi worms, pickled pigs’ feet, and sticking your hand in ice water (“like ow”). Anyone with more suggestions or problems, please let Nikki know.
Kim let
us know more about the band aspect of Homecoming, especially dealing with
PR. They’ve decided to
utilize the construction fence, and put a banner there. They’re also going to use paper
airplanes (playing off off Fly-Away) and sticks in the yard. I don’t really know what that means, but
by golly there’ll be sticks in a yard somewhere. And
it’ll be PR for Homecoming, which is even better.
Lastly,
Jessica told us about Rocky Horror. They’ve decided to hold off on the PR
until after Homecoming. They’re
also waiting on the Drama Club to get
back to them about running the movie for
us, which sounds to me like money going to the foam dome.. I mean
Treasury. Although I imagine you
can keep a lot of money in a foam dome.
It’d just be soapy. Anyway,
they’ve reserved the Warehouse for the night, and they plan on having a costume contest with a Wal-Mart gift certificate
as a prize. How’s that for a
happy
Halloween?
That’s
all she wrote, folks. Join us next
week when we do November planning. =)
Cheers,
Christina
