Hey all!!
Thanks to everyone who came out to the meeting! A
hearty "Welcome back!" goes out to all the returning members, and a beefy
"Welcome!" goes to all the new members that we have this year. Speaking
for exec, we are pumped to see everyone ready and willing to work to make this a
great year for SAC and for Centre.
So here's the deal on what we did last night at our
meeting:
First of all, our officers introduced
themselves.
Monica DeCarlo (senior) is our President)
Mira Gentry (senior) is our Executive Vice President,
Thom Greene (senior) is our Vice President of Finance aka "guy-in-charge-of-the-money,"
Christina Garcia I am the Vice President of Administration (fancy term for
secretary),
Mary Catherine Starr (sophomore) is our Vice President of Public Relations - she makes the pretty
posters =),
Marie Davis (sophomore) is our Vice President of Membership, previously known as the
"Spirit Chair" - she gives us candy or other fun things.
Then we had a briefing by Monica about our
advisor. It went sorta like this: Our former Director of Student
Activities received a job offer from another institution in Alabama over the
summer, and she accepted it. The Student Life Office has yet to find a
replacement, so until we get a new Director of Student Activities, Trina McFarland is going to be our
advisor. Trina has had experience with SAC before, although now she works
primarily on community service projects (Go Trina!) Exec will play a part
in the decision-making process for our new advisor, so if there are any
concerns you may have, please feel free to contact any of us and let us
know. We will also be keeping you updated on the quest for a new advisor,
so stay tuned.
Having said that, Trina gave us the update on the
frontier of the new advisor search and said that the SLO has already decided on
candidates to interview and will be bringing them to campus in the next 2-3
weeks. In a happy world we would have a new
advisor by the first of November, so let's keep our fingers
crossed (no offense Trina).
Some administrative notes:
Meetings will continue to be held at 8 PM on Monday
nights on the 3rd floor of the Warehouse - it helps us stay organized for the upcoming
week.
Exec
meetings are held on Monday afternoons at 4:15 PM
For the remainder of the meeting we broke into
small groups and planned October, November, and
December. We had 2 groups working on
each month and now we have a whole plethora of event ideas that we could
implement this semester. Next Monday
night is when we'll be cementing all our events for those months, so you don't
want to miss out!
As a final note, we are also trying to create our very own logo. Mary Catherine
has done some sketches for our design, but if anyone else has any ideas or
sketches please send them to Mary Catherine.
Also, be thinking of t-shirt/theme ideas.
Last year, we were the mob, "organized and connected." So think up
some good ideas and have them ready when the time comes.
That's it from SAC-land. Have a great rest of
the week, and we'll see you next Monday night, same SAC time, same SAC
place!
Christina
