Hooray for minutes!!
Thom gave us a wonderful Treasurer’s report.
SGA gave us $33,000 for our spring allocation (to be used this year), and we’re in the process of working on the fall allocation (i.e. more money).
So far we’ve spent $5242.44 for Orientation on the Video Dance Party and the Hypnotist.
For October, we budgeted:
- $10,000 Fly-Away (includes bands + trip)
- $3,000 Family Weekend
- $600 Bowling
In terms of meeting this budget:
- we’ve spent $10,000 on Fly-Away (bands + trip)
- we’ve spent $2250 on the Family Weekend comedian
- Monica and I (as well as some SGA reps) met with the first candidate and things went well with him
- Monica, Mira, Mary Catherine, and I (+Ben Golden and Mary Jane Saunier) met with another candidate today and will meet with one tomorrow as well
Just as a general note: All the candidates that the SLO has chosen are
really qualified, so we’re not worried
about finding someone that will fit our needs. If you have
any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to tell an exec member or
Trina.
We’ve got events coming in October! Here’s what we planned:
Oct 1st (Family Weekend) we’ve got a comedian coming. Tricia and Ines have volunteered to be the committee chairs for that event.
Oct 6th (Wednesday) Return of the Midnight Movie!! provided that we can get a deal worked out with one of the theaters. If we can’t, then the Midnight Movie will magically become Twilight Bowling =). Taylor and Katelyn have volunteered to be the committee chairs for this event.
Oct 20th (Wednesday) Fear Factor in Cowan! It’s about time we had another game show in Cowan, and what better than to gross everyone out while they’re eating? Nikki and Kim have volunteered to be the committee chairs.
Oct 23rd (Saturday) It’s Homecoming!!! We’ve got the band portion of the night being chaired by Kim, and the trip portion of the night being handled by Ashley.
Halloween… Some people like to dress up. Some people like to watch movies. When you throw both together, you end up with a Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed event. The details of this remain to be ironed out (we need to see how messy we can get the Warehouse before we decide if we’re going to go full out with this). Committee chairs will be decided once we figure out what we can and can’t do. =)
The last bit of business for the night was designing the ever-wondrous SAC t-shirt! After discussion and exercises in the democratic process, we decided on a shirt with a waving hot dog and the slogan “Don’t be a loser, be a weiner!” The exact details of the t-shirt will be determined by price… Now I know what you’re thinking, but don’t be fooled by the size of our budget! It may look large, but we really can’t afford to spend too much of it on t-shirts. We need it for other things *coughs*foamdome*coughs*. So we’ll get back to the details of the t-shirt later.
