"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed people can make a difference;
indeed, it is the only thing that has."

5 Ways to Give…

Teach an Adult to Read
At the Danville Adult Education and Literacy Center, you may work with an adult who needs to be tutored in English as a second language or who needs help preparing for the GED. You may also choose to offer childcare for parents while they are being tutored.

Adopt a Grandparent
At the local nursing home, you may volunteer to assist with bingo or the sewing group, or you may choose to visit one on one with a resident.

Feed Those Who Are Hungry
On the last Friday of every month, the Boyle County Health Department needs volunteers to help distribute food to those in need. You may also choose to help out at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, which serves as a soup kitchen twice per month.

Inspire a Child
Whether you are volunteering at an after school program, organizing a project at the Housing Authority, participating in Centre's four week L.I.F.T. (Learning is Fun Together) Program, or spending an hour a week with a child through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, you can make a real difference in the life of a child.

Repair a Home
One Saturday each spring Centre students, faculty, and staff team up with other members of the Danville community to repair the homes of senior citizens who are low-income or other residents who possess a disability. The amount of work that is accomplished in one day is amazing!

Ellie Guy plays with a puppy at the Humane Society

These are only a few of the ways that you can give of your time. You could also choose to volunteer at the Humane Society, the hospital, or the Rape Crisis Center. You may want to raise funds for St. Jude, Big Brothers Big Sisters, or some other worthy cause. You could even choose to clean up the community, give blood, or be a child's Christmas angel through the Angel Tree Program. Whatever your talent, it can be used for service to others.
